ISHR and ONE
The Institute for the Study of Human resources, combined with ONE, Incorporated, offers support and encouragement for researchers and activists who are working to educate society on all aspects of same-sex relationships, by developing future leaders and by building strong institutions. The goals of ISHR and ONE are, through education and research, to benefit future generations of same-sex oriented people in all nations of the world.
The Institute for the Study of Human Resources (ISHR), doing business as ONE, Incorporated, was founded in 1964 and became a California Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation, with tax-exempt status under §501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, in 1965. This corporation provides financial support for research that encourages the acceptance of sexual diversity in every culture.
ONE, INCORPORATED
ONE, Incorporated is now the oldest ongoing gay organization in the Western Hemisphere. Over the years ISHR and ONE have helped to publish magazines, books, journals, papers, and bibliographical guides that have been extremely valuable in laying the intellectual basis for the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) movement.
ISHR d/b/a ONE has funded national symposia and conferences, as well as seminars and classes. For many years a ONE Institute Lecture Series was sponsored by ISHR. In 1995 ONE Incorporated merged with ISHR to provide grants for international research, publication and education.
In 1994 its ONE Institute library merged with the International Gay and Lesbian Archives, and became affiliated with the University of Southern California. ISHR has been a major sponsor of these archives.
